Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in power within the city.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each character has a individual motive to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
