The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and propelled it a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and supported its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its prevailing cynical streak. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences more opportunities to enjoy the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
