Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his future following another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It's important to change things and earn three points obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I sense the trust. However I've not talked to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with performances so bad.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
