Jurgen Klopp admits a return to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is something that could happen. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell featuring a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the league title under Arne Slot, though countless followers who adore the manager would embrace the idea that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club on English soil. So that means should it be the Reds...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests the choice could be mine down the line, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on which situations would have to unfold to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip press conferences repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area per se, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, praising him for the adjustments that took the title last campaign. They've been defeated a string of losses across various tournaments post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the notion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry over the club, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, and the effect at the club. The forward was killed in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It’s not about his on-field talent, it's his character. I can’t imagine the team environment without him in it. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad also. Not a single person would cite it for poor performances though it's a fact. Being in that space which he filled completely. Handling this individually is difficult. Overwhelming.”
