According to new allegations from a informant, Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year prison term for sex-trafficking crimes, is allegedly readying a commutation application for consideration by the Trump administration.

Special Treatment Claimed at Federal Prison

Congressional Democrats on the judicial oversight panel announced that a source provided information indicating Maxwell is working on the commutation application. Additionally, they mentioned she has been given preferential conditions at the minimum-security facility in Texas.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the committee, declared in a news release that the facility's chief was “helping” the convict with copying, printing, and sending documents to aid her effort for clemency.

Specific details of the “commutation application” remain unknown, the congressman noted.

Claimed Perks and Custom Arrangements

The representative claims that, according to the whistleblower, the prisoner has been receiving “customized” meals that are “personally delivered” to her cell, and the warden has “personally arranged” private meetings for her and her guests.

These meetings allegedly include a “special cordoned-off area” for visitors and “an assortment of snacks and refreshments” for her guests.

Maxwell’s visitors were also allowed to bring computers, which the congressman characterized as an “unprecedented action” given the security risk and potential for unsupervised contact.

In one alleged instance, when communications failed for other prisoners, she was provided directions about instructing her contacts to contact and how staff would connect the communication to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The source also allegedly told congressional members that when Maxwell wanted to examine and modify papers “quickly”, she “essentially used” the official as her “personal secretary and administrative assistant”.

The news release states that Maxwell’s correspondents would email documents directly to the supervisor, who would hand them over to Maxwell, for her to examine and change and return them to the warden to digitize and send to the initial correspondent.

Additional Privileges Alleged

Other privileges reportedly provided to Maxwell include opportunities to interact with a service dog puppy – a perk typically prohibited – as well as exclusive nighttime use to the facility's gym.

Maxwell’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the whistleblower’s claims.

In a statement, the presidential office said that it “will not discuss” on possible pardon appeals.

“Per the President's remarks, granting clemency to Ghislaine Maxwell is not something he has considered,” the spokesperson added.

Context and Developments

Recently, reports surfaced that Maxwell told close associates in emails from prison that she was more content at the new prison than her former location.

In August, she was transferred from a secure facility in Tallahassee, Florida to the minimum-security camp in the state, where most inmates are serving time for non-violent offenses and white-collar crimes.

The transfer, which authorities called as “unprecedented”, occurred just shortly following she was questioned about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, who also previously served as Donald Trump's personal lawyer.

That interview came as the Trump administration was facing mounting pressure to release more documents related to the ongoing probe and amid intense speculation around the President's own personal ties to the disgraced financier and adjudicated criminal, who was found deceased in custody in 2019 while facing trial on trafficking accusations.

Congressional Response

In the news release, Raskin also announced that he had sent a letter to the President, requesting explanations about the insider's claims, and urged the chief executive to reject Maxwell’s commutation request.

“You should not grant any type of pardon to this adjudicated and remorseless criminal,” Raskin wrote in the document. “The government must not offer her with personal amenities, with puppies to play with, with government agents attending to her requests, or with any preferential handling or facility benefit at all.”

The congressman asked that the official attend a public congressional hearing to discuss the revelations and also presented several inquiries to the President.

Raskin asked whether he had talked about a possible clemency for Maxwell with the official or others, whether he had instructed Blanche or anyone else to provide Maxwell with the transfer or special conditions in prison, and whether she, her lawyers, relatives or representatives have made any promises to Trump or his legal team.

The representative requested for a response to the questions by 24 November.

In October, the US supreme court rejected an appeal from the convict on her trafficking verdict.
