British tennis star Emma Raducanu wraps up the current season and plans to retain coach for 2026.
Raducanu advanced to round three in three out of four Grand Slam events this year.
Britain's Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the last two tournaments this season because of a health issue she has been fighting in recent days.
At 22 years old was due to play in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to rest and recuperate ahead of launching her preparations for 2026.
Those preparations will include trainer Francisco Roig, as they will keep partnering for the upcoming season.
The tennis professional required blood pressure checks while playing the initial match against Ann Li in the Wuhan tournament and retired when trailing 6-1 4-1 on a very muggy occasion.
She again required a visit from the doctor at this week's Ningbo Open, where she lost in three sets to local wildcard Zhu Lin in the opening round.
She was also playing noticeably restricted in the third set against Zhu due to a lower back issue that has affected her during parts of the season.
These outcomes followed a positive campaign, in which the player advanced into the top 30 globally for the first time for the first time since 2022, concluded with three straight losses.
She held three match points prior to falling to American player Jessica Pegula in the third stage in last month's Beijing event.
Raducanu won 28 matches this year and reached the semi-finals in Washington, but her standout performance was at the Miami Open in March.
The British number one made the last eight of the WTA 1000 event, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro during the tournament before losing in three sets to fourth-ranked Pegula.
Her coach was Mark Petchey as coach between Miami and Wimbledon, with Francisco Roig stepping in ahead of the US Open.
The first plan with Rafael Nadal's former coach was until the end of the season but the partnership will continue, with a training block pencilled in in the coming months.
The athlete revealed that her three-day trial with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "secret mission" as the meeting was kept under wraps.
She came very close to overcoming Sabalenka, the world number one at their first tournament together in Cincinnati in August.
Roig was also with Raducanu in the New York tournament, where she made the third stage then falling to Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
