Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important political figure said the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
