A standout among Avatar: The Last Airbender's top installments gets a dedicated MTG special card drop.
Typically, clip shows are disliked from viewers as a needless waste of time, or sometimes tolerated as essential in television in the era of weekly production. However, this wasn't the situation, and Avatar: The Last Airbender proved it via "The Ember Island Players," a popular installment during its concluding run which is now receiving a dedicated Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair release.

The full Secret Lair superdrop for the soon-to-release Avatar: The Last Airbender set was announced recently. Containing five separate collections, and even though one titled "My Cabbages!" is certainly amusing nod to Avatar's best background character, the remaining sets seem somewhat lacking creativity, except for one standout: "The Ember Island Players."
Inspired by the seventeenth episode of the third season of the beloved series, this special set features these particular cards:
- 1x Phantasmal Image as "Absolutely Accurate Actor"
- 1x Braid of Fire
- 1x Cursed Mirror
- 1x Mask of Memory
- 1x Thespian's Stage
What makes this episode stands out
Fans of the series fondly remember this installment, which acted as a review of the hero Aang and his companions' journey leading up to the conclusion. Different from other recap episodes, or compilation episodes, "The Ember Island Players" was not driven due to production constraints or creative challenges. The producers specifically aimed to provide audiences a moment to recap the show's narrative, but they decided to execute it with flair.
During the installment, the crew view a play based on their exploits in a theater located on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The entire performance is inaccurate, melodramatic, and completely amusing. It excels since it plays with the heroes' understanding regarding their own identities, setting them against with how the world (and notably the antagonist nation) views them. It has an ideal level of self-awareness, and it becomes perhaps the top rendition of the show available to date.
Value and availability
In terms of value, this represents an excellent Secret Lair because of one major element: Braid of Fire. This specific card sells between $20 and $40 on online marketplaces as of now, and at $29.99 you can obtain the entire Secret Lair, or for $39.99 for the shiny edition.
Magic: The Gathering's Avatar: The Last Airbender collection will be available for pre-release events on Nov. 14 and debuts internationally come November 21.
